Staged Distribution is a planning strategy which requires beneficiaries to receive their inheritance over time, in stages, rather than all at once.
There are many different reasons why you may want to choose Staged Distribution, but we especially recommend it if you have minor kids, so that they don’t potentially receive a bulk sum of assets at an early age when they are prone to misuse the proceeds.
As an example, many of our clients choose to make three (3) distributions: 1/3 at age 22, the next 1/3 at age 25 and the remaining amount at age 30. Another popular choice is 1/2 at age 25, and the second half at age 30.
